The Lakeland Métis community boasts a rich heritage deeply rooted in the historical Métis community in the Lac La Biche region. Through the passage of time, this community has flourished into the contemporary Lakeland Métis Community.

Regrettably, our citizens currently confront a multitude of threats that imperil the sustainability of our cherished traditional Métis way of life. The Athabasca Basin serves as an indispensable water route for Lakeland Métis citizens, facilitating their navigation and access to various areas, notably the Oil sands region. These areas are fundamentally vital for activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, and resource gathering, which are absolutely essential for the subsistence, cultural, and commercial needs of the Lakeland Métis community. Notwithstanding the manifold challenges presented by industrialization and the environment, our citizens remain unwavering in their commitment to practicing traditional harvesting activities throughout northern Alberta.
